Dan Rather Signs Off (CBSNews.com)
"Of all the famous names associated with CBS News, the biggest and brightest on the marquee are Murrow, Cronkite and Rather," CBS president Sean McManus said. "With the utmost respect, we mark the extraordinary and singular role Dan has played in writing the script of not only CBS News, but of broadcast journalism." The network is working on a primetime special on the newsman's career, scheduled to be broadcast sometime this fall. CBS News also will make a contribution to Sam Houston State University, Rather's alma mater. TVNewser: The 1,717-word press release. Blog Maverick: Mark Cuban's HDNet talking to Rather about producing "a show that uncovers news. Information with a payoff."
Jim Lehrer Seeks to Demystify Journalism (Columbus Dispatch)
From his seat as the anchorman and executive editor of The NewsHour With Jim Lehrer on PBS, the host has a good view of news and the people who make it. But for his latest PBS venture, Lehrer has turned his attention to the people who cover the news.
Where the Readers Report (Media Life)
Heidi Dawley: One might think that citizen journalism would flourish in the U.S., this cradle of Western-style democracy, and all the blogging would surely point that way. Yet it has really had little impact in this country, for all the talk about it in journalism schools.
