Back in May, Disney announced it would be rolling out a new line of Star Wars themed toys, which will be available for purchase in Disney stores. As excited customers browsed through the soon-to-be-collectibles, they quickly noticed the lack of products featuring female characters — Sure, Luke and R2 and Han and Vader were all represented, but where was the no-nonsense heroine Princess Leia?
A mother shopping for her daughter asked Disney that exact question via Twitter, to which the brand responded:
@nataliewreyford Currently, there are no plans for Leia products at Disney Store, Natalie. Have a wonderful day!

The resulting tweets from outraged fans were far less cheerful than that of the Disney Store, and #WeWantLeia quickly became a trending hashtag.
Wisely, Disney has decided to respond to the movement, telling Time earlier this week that it plans to add Leia products to its lineup, saying:
“The current assortment of Star Wars products at the Disney Store launched earlier this year and is just the beginning of what is to come. We’re excited to be rolling out new products in the coming months, including several items that will feature Princess Leia, one of the most iconic characters in the Star Wars galaxy.”
Damn straight, she is; and Disney would do well to remember that her fans, like the rebel Princess herself, are a force to be reckoned with.
