We’ve heard female Fox News anchors likened to a troupe of identical Barbie dolls placed on set to do little more than look pretty, but those comments usually come from people who aren’t big fans of Fox News in the first place. When the sexist jokes and comments come from a coworker, however, it suddenly becomes a whole different (not to mention awkward and insulting) ballgame.
The latest dust-up began when a guest on Fox News host Brian Kilmeade‘s radio show doled out a rather sexist compliment to Fox News anchor Alisyn Camerota, saying, “Well you and all the women of Fox, I don’t know who was the scout that got you guys, but they rock”. While Camerota attempted to gracefully laugh off the comment and thank the guest for his “sweet” words, Brian Kilmeade responded by saying:
“It was actually, we go into the Victoria’s Secret catalog and we said, ‘Can any of these people talk?’ And they all could and they all went to college”. Yikes. There are so many things horrifically wrong with that statement we’re not even sure where to start. It might actually be worse than Kilmeade’s sexist comments this past June, when he made light of the fact that “Women are everywhere…It’s out of control” and prompted his Fox and Friends co-host Gretchen Carlson to walk off the set.
We’re rather disappointed that Alisyn Camerota didn’t have an equally outraged reaction to the implication that talent scouts discovered her splayed half-naked in a lingerie catalog–and that the small matter of whether she was educated or could even speak was only an afterthought. Instead, she simply laughed uncomfortably and told Kilmeade in a playful tone that he was “crazy.” Audio below:
