Are You Getting Facebook Right?
When we interviewed Geoff Livingston, CEO of Livingston Communications back in November and asked him, "What is #1 thing clients have asked for over last 6 months?" Geoff replied, "Facebook app. If I hear another Facebook app I'm gonna jump off the roof." Well just one month later, we're seeing more reports of companies not "getting Facebook," specifically when it comes to applications. Valleywag's Tim Faulkner writes: Building a Facebook application for the mere sake of having one is probably not the advertiser's goal, but for the time being, ad agencies don't seem to be able to come up with much more than these hamhanded attempts. Desperate to seem hip, advertisers will likely keep shelling out for more useless apps -- until they start looking at the numbers, and grow some globes of their own. Is this where smart PR pros can come in and steer clients in the right direction? The "hip factor" is definitely there, but you need more than that. If it's not useful or at least entertaining, it won't stick. What do you think? Email This Post |
