’60 Minutes’ Scores Ruth Madoff Exclusive
In her first interview since her husband was sentenced to life in prison , Bernie Madoff‘s wife Ruth Madoff is speaking to a TV news outlet. Madoff’s outlet of choice is CBS’ “60 Minutes,” which will run the piece on Sunday.
Morley Safer interviewed Madoff, who revealed that she and her husband attempted suicide after the accusations became public. Safer also spoke to Madoff’s son Andrew.
“I don’t know whose idea it was, but we decided to kill ourselves because it was so horrendous what was happening,” Ruth Madoff tells Safer. “We had terrible phone calls. Hate mail, just beyond anything and I said ‘…I just can’t go on anymore.’”
Last week, ABC’s “20/20″ anchor Chris Cuomo had the first interview with Bernard Madoff’s daughter-in-law Stephanie Madoff Mack, whose husband Mark, did commit suicide over the torment of his father’s crimes.
