Andy Scholes Named CNN Sports Correspondent

CNN has named Andy Scholes as a full-time sports correspondent. Scholes has been working part-time at CNN for a few months (and living out of the Omni Hotel, according to an internal email announcing his promotion), covering sports-related stories for the channel.

In his new role he will be covering sports and sports news for CNN, and will also be doing the “Bleacher Report” segment on “New Day.” Before joining CNN, he was a sports anchor and reporter for CW affiliate KDAF in Dallas.

Scholes joins Rachel Nichols on the sports beat. Nichols joined CNN and Turner Sports from ESPN earlier this year, and is the channel’s lead sports reporter.

To the CNN Sports Staff,
I’m pleased to announce that Andy Scholes is joining CNN Sports as a full-time on-air correspondent.  Andy has spent so much time filling in with us the past few months that he’s already a key part of our team.  But this makes it official – he’ll soon be moving out of the Omni Hotel and into a real Atlanta home!
Andy joins us from Dallas, where he was most recently a sports anchor and reporter with KDAF.  His broadcasting career has had stops in several Texas markets, including Houston, where he graduated from college while holding down a side gig as Assistant to the Equipment Manager for the Houston Rockets (Dwight Shrute fans will note the “to the” distinction).  Along the way Andy covered the World Series, Super Bowl and NBA Finals – and can now add CNN’s New Day launch to his list of achievements.
In recent months Andy has answered the call whenever needed and has impressed at every opportunity.  He’s been a wonderful presence in our Sports newsroom and has done a fantastic job with the Bleacher Report updates across CNN & HLN.  Congratulations, Andy, on your well-deserved appointment with CNN Sports!
