Awards Season: Peabodys, Headliners, Christophers

PeabodyIn addition to the Peabody Awards announced today on “CBS This Morning,” the Christopher Awards, which honor media “that affirm the highest values of the human spirit,” were announced. And earlier this week the National Headliner Awards “recognizing journalistic merit in the communications industry,” were announced by the Press Club of Atlantic City. Here are some highlights of all three:

  • Peabody Awards: CBS for Charlie Rose‘s interview with Bashar Assad; CNN’s “Anthony Bourdain: Parts Unknown;” Al Jazeera America for “Faultlines;” PBS won multiple Peabodys and a personal award is going to Tom Brokaw: “the anchor emeritus has only enhanced his reputation since he left the desk in 2004,” Peabody judges found.

  • National Headliner Awards: CNN and Al Jazeera America will take home several awards in the broadcast category. CNN wins first place awards for coverage of a major news event for Jake Tapper‘s coverage of the Boston bombing, for continuing coverage of a major news event for coverage of Egypt Unrest, and for news magazine program for Gloria Borger‘s “Marriage Warriors: Showdown at the Supreme Court.” AJAM wins multiple first place awards for investigative, business/consumer, environmental and health/science reporting.
