Cable Network Ranker: February 2013

February 2013 had lots of news, although as we noted yesterday, none of the cable news channels were able to grow compared to February of 2012.

The top four ad-supported cable channels in primetime in February were USA Network, History, TNT and TBS, all bolstered by new episodes of their original programs. Fox News Channel placed fifth, with ESPN, AMC, A&E, Discovery and FX rounding out the top 10.

FNC was the top cable news channel for the month, placing fifth in primetime and sixth in total day. MSNBC was 24th in primetime and 27th in total day, while CNN was 29th in both primetime and total day.

HLN was 37th in primetime and 40th in total day, while Current TV was dead last among all ad-supported channels in both categories, placing below Nielsen’s minimum accuracy threshold.

For the business networks: CNBC led the way as usual, placing 50th in primetime and 51st in total day, while Fox Business was 91st in primetime and 86th in total day. Bloomberg TV hasn’t been rated by Nielsen since it launched in 1994.
