Cable Network Ranker: January 2013

A month bolstered by the Presidential inauguration didn’t really help the cable news channels, as we noted yesterday. The networks didn’t see much of a boost in the cable network ranker either.

Fox News was the top cable news channel as usual, placing seventh in primetime among all ad-supported cable networks, and eighth in total day. FNC averaged 1.62 million and 1.03 million total viewers, respectively.

MSNBC was 26th in both primetime and total day, averaging 790,000 and 491,000 viewers, respectively. CNN was 31st in primetime and 29th in total day, averaging 664,000 and 448,000 viewers, respectively.

HLN was 42nd in primetime and 44th in total day, averaging 312,000 and 223,000 viewers, respectively. Current TV, in its first full month since it was acquired by Al Jazeera, placed 93rd in primetime and 94th in total day, placing below Nielsen’s minimum threshold for accuracy.

CNBC was the top cable business network as usual, placing 56th in primetime and 54th in total day, and averaging 208,000 and 170,000 viewers  respectively. Fox Business Network placed 90th in primetime and 88th in total day, averaging 47,000 and 45,000 viewers, respectively. Bloomberg TV isn’t rated by Nielsen, and hasn’t been since it launched in the mid-90′s.
