Cable Network Ranker: Week Of April 29-May 5

With the Boston bombing in the rearview mirror, the week of April 29-May 5 was something of a return to normalcy for cable news. While the Jodi Arias trial kept HLN elevated in the cable network ranker, CNN fell out of the top 10.

Fox News was the top cable news channel for the week, placing third among ad-supported cable channels (fourth among all cable channels) in primetime, and fourth among ad-supported channels in total day.

HLN, led by Arias coverage, placed 27th in primetime and 22nd in total day among ad-supported cable channels (28th and 23rd among all channels), while MSNBC was 30th and 32nd in primetime and total day (31st and 33rd among all channels). CNN placed 31st in primetime and 27th in total day (32nd and 28th among all channels).

For the business networks: CNBC placed 51st in primetime and 58th in total day (52nd and 59th among all channels), while Fox Business placed 87th in primetime and 88th in total day (88th and 89th among all channels). Bloomberg TV hasn’t been rated by Nielsen since it launched back in the mid-90s.
