Cable Network Ranker: Week of December 10

The tragedy in Newtown, CT capped what would have otherwise been a slow news week last week, and propelled CNN to a much higher ranking in the cable network ranker.

Fox News was the top cable news channel last week, per usual. FNC was 5th in primetime among ad-supported cable networks with 1.93 million viewers, and 4th in total day with 1.30 million. CNN cracked the top 15, placing 13th in primetime with 1.23 million viewers, and 14th in total day with 785,000. MSNBC placed 23rd in primetime and 21st in total day, averaging 876,000 and 548,000 viewers, respectively.

HLN was 41st in primetime and 40th in total day, averaging 323,000 and 250,000 viewers, respectively. Current TV was 93rd in both primetime and total day, placing below the minimum accuracy threshold for Nielsen.

Among the business networks: CNBC led the way as usual, placing 46th in primetime and 50th in total day, and averaging 271,000 and 187,000 viewers, respectively. Fox Business was 89th in primetime and 82nd in total day, and averaged 55,000 and 52,00 viewers, respectively. Bloomberg TV hasn’t been rated by Nielsen since it launched in 1994.
