Cable Network Ranker: Week of January 7

A slow news week kept the cable news channels farther down on the ratings list of cable channels last week.

Fox News Channel was the top cable news outlet, placing sixth in primetime and eight in total day among all ad-supported cable channels. FNC averaged .162 million viewers in primetime and 1.01 million in total day. MSNBC was 25th in primetime and 26th in total day, averaging 746,000 and 451,000 viewers, respectively. CNN was 33rd in both primetime and total day, averaging 496,000 and 346,000 viewers, respectively.

HLN was 41st in primetime and 43rd in total day, averaging 320,000 and 221,000 viewers, respectively. Current TV lost the ratings bump it saw last week, and fell to 93rd in primetime and 95th in total day, averaging approximately 34,000 and 24,000 viewers, below Nielsen’s threshold for accurate reporting.

For the business networks: CNBC led the way as usual, placing 55th in primetime and 53rd in total day, averaging 190,000 and 155,000 viewers, respectively. Fox Business Network was 89th in primetime and 86th in total day, averaging 45,000 and 44,000 viewers, respectively. Bloomberg TV hasn’t been rated by Nielsen since it launched in 1994.
