Cablers Welcome New White House Press Secretary Jay Carney

This afternoon marked Jay Carney‘s first White House press briefing as President Barack Obama‘s new Press Secretary.

All three cable news channels carried at least part of it live, with the shootings of ICE agents in Mexico the top subject matter.

There was also some gentle ribbing from the press corps, with ABC’s Jake Tapper tweeting:

“1st Carney briefing almost over, close to no news made, no gaffes. POTUS will be pleased. http://twitpic.com/40hnu0″

And NBC’s Chuck Todd saying:

“Tsk tsk, Jay Carney already following in Gibbs’ footsteps, briefing will not start on time.”
