Fox News was the top cable news network for the week of March 31, averaging 1,723,000 viewers in primetime and 1,015,000 viewers in total day. Fox News placed fourth in primetime and fifth in total day among all ad-supported cable networks for the week.

MSNBC placed 29th in primetime and 28th in total day, averaging 645,000 viewers and 383,000 viewers, respectively. CNN placed 30th in primetime and 21st in total day for the week. The network averaged 644,000 primetime viewers and 484,000 total day viewers.

Best Q1 Since 1994 For ‘CBS Sunday Morning’

OsgoodMore good news for “CBS Sunday Morning”: the Charles Osgood-hosted show posted its best Q1 delivery in total viewers since 1994 during the first quarter of 2014. It was the second best Q1 for “CBS Sunday Morning” since the advent of people meters in 1987.

The program was the top Sunday morning newscast for the quarter, averaging 6.14 million viewers and 1.6/08 in the A25-54 demographic. The show was up +5% in viewers compared to the year-ago quarter.

Last week, “CBS Sunday Morning” delivered more than six million viewers for the second consecutive week and for the 10th time this season.

Viewers Turn to Cable News in First Hours After Fort Hood Shooting

Shep4Ratings are in for the cable news networks’ wall-to-wall coverage of the Fort Hood shooting, which left four people — including the gunman, Ivan Lopez  – dead. During the first two hours of the coverage (from 6-8pmET), Fox News was first, CNN was second and MSNBC was third in both ratings measurements.

In primetime, Fox News was first, CNN was second and MSNBC was third. Fox won in both ratings measurements every hour except for 10pmET, which was the hour of the first news conference from Fort Hood. During that hour, “Hannity” won in total viewers and a CNN special report anchored by Don Lemon won in the demo.
