Former CNN Anchor Tony Harris Now Anchoring For Al Jazeera English

Former CNN anchor Tony Harris, who left CNN in December after more than six years at the cable channel, appears to have found a new gig.

Harris was anchoring on Al Jazeera English beginning at noon ET today.

“Good evening everyone, I am Tony Harris, it is 1600 GMT and this is Al Jazeera,” Harris said, before discussing the breaking news that former Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak had been hospitalized.

While a source confirmed that Harris had joined Al Jazeera English, they did not know whether the role was a full-time one.

Top US news anchor joins Al Jazeera

Al Jazeera English has announced that Tony Harris has joined the channel as one of its presenters.

Harris joins Al Jazeera from CNN where he was based at their Atlanta HQ for six years. He presented CNN Newsroom each weekday as well as reporting extensively on domestic and international news.

Harris is an Emmy award winning journalist who was also previously at HBO and a correspondent for Entertainment Tonight.

His first presenting duties at AJE took place today at 1600GMT. Speaking before going on air, Harris said:

“I’m really pleased to have joined. Having an interest in news from around the world, I was attracted by AJE’s global focus and look forward to being involved in stories from all points of the globe. It’s a very exciting time to be coming on board.”

Al Anstey, managing director of Al Jazeera English in welcoming Harris said:

“It’s great to have Tony join our roster of presenters. He’s an experienced anchor who will appeal to audiences across the world.”
