Gio Benitez is joining ABC News as a correspondent.
Benitez joins ABC News from CBS O&O WFOR in South Florida. The Miami native starts with ABC, first in the New York bureau, early next year. Most recently, Benitez covered the 2012 presidential election in battleground Florida, as well as the Trayvon Martin case in Central Florida and he holds the distinction of being the first reporter to shoot a story for broadcast, using the iPhone 3GS in 2009.
“Versatile and hard-charging, Gio worked for years as an investigative producer before going on the air,” writes ABC News president Ben Sherwood in a note to staff.
