How a News Tip on the way to Starbucks Led to a BMW Recall

BMW has issued a voluntary recall of 150,000 vehicles for a fuel pump problem. How is this a TVNewser story, you ask? Because the tip came in the old fashioned way, to a TV reporter who was recognized by a woman on the street as she was on her way to Starbucks.

“It was the viewers who brought this to my attention,” ABC News anchor/reporter Chris Cuomo tells TVNewser. “I was literally walking down the street when a woman approached me on her way to get coffee to complain about her faulty BMW.”

Cuomo listened to the woman’s story, took it back to his producers at ABC, and they began working the phones to confirm and report the story. Cuomo’s exclusive aired this morning on “Good Morning America.” Hours later, BMW issued the recall.

“This story turned into a great example of the media trying to help the public,” says Cuomo.
