The note from Verdi and Powell is after the jump.

We are pleased to announce that Joe Fryer will be joining NBC News on October 21 as a general assignment correspondent based in our Burbank bureau.  Joe joins us from KING, our affiliate in Seattle, where he has worked as a special projects reporter since 2010.

Many of you know Joe from the recent reporting he did for NBC News, covering the Hannah Anderson kidnapping, the Colorado floods and the controversy surrounding San Diego Mayor Bob Filner.

His work impressed us so much, we hired him full time.

At KING, Joe focused on in-depth reports and daily assignments for the station, also specializing in transportation coverage.  The Amanda Knox verdict, the historic vote approving same-sex marriage and the Skagit River Bridge collapse are just a few of the recent stories he’s covered there. Prior to KING, Joe spent six years at KARE-TV, the NBC affiliate in Minneapolis and also worked at WTVF-TV in Nashville, WBAY-TV in Green Bay and WKYT-TV in Lexington.

His local reporting has earned him some of the industry’s most prestigious honors, including four national Edward R. Murrow Awards, including the Writing Murrow in 2006, two National Headliner Awards and the SPJ’s Sigma Delta Chi Award.

Please join us in welcoming Joe to NBC News.
