Mass Shooting Near Empire State Building

There was a mass shooting near the Empire State Building in New York this morning. Our sister blog TVSpy has all the local news coverage, which, given that this is New York, is extensive.

Nationally, Fox News broke into programming at 9:24, CNN at 9:29 and MSNBC at 9:30. At 10 AM NBC aired a special report (though not in New York where WNBC was in rolling coverage), anchored by Matt Lauer and Savannah Guthrie. CNN International is simulcasting CNN/U.S. for its coverage of the shooting.

Other notes: A Fox News staffer, Jacque Boothby, was nearby, and called into FNC’s programming with an eyewitness account. Obviously all of the networks had reporters and correspondents on the scene relatively quickly.

Not exactly national news-related, but some sick person called into WABC pretending to be an eyewitness, and when asked what happened to the shooter, he responded “Howard Stern came in and took him.” Stay classy guys.
