November ’10 Ratings: MSNBC Still Topping CNN

For the fifth straight month in a row, MSNBC topped CNN in Total Day in both A25-54 viewers and Total Viewers. MSNBC also beat CNN by 51% in A25-54 viewers and by 36% among Total Viewers in primetime.

“Morning Joe” topped CNN’s “American Morning” for the 9th consecutive month in Total Viewers and fourth month in a row among A25-52.  “The Ed Show” beat CNN for the 9th consecutive month in Total Viewers and 5th consecutive month in A25-54.

“Hardball” beat CNN for the 10th consecutive month in Total Viewers and 9th consecutive month in A25-54. “Countdown with Keith Olbermann” beat CNN for the 33rd month in Total Viewers and A25-54. “The Rachel Maddow Show” beat CNN’s “Larry King Live” for the 10th straight month in Total Viewers and among A25-54.

MSNBC BEATS CNN IN TOTAL DAY FOR THE FIFTH CONSECUTIVE MONTH

MSNBC Continues to Top CNN in the Morning and Every Hour From 6 p.m. – 12 a.m.

NEW YORK – November 30, 2010 – MSNBC topped CNN in viewers 25-54 for the fifth straight month in total day in November, the eighth month this year that it has done so, according to data from Nielsen Media Research. MSNBC has out-rated CNN in primetime among both Adults 25-54 and total viewers for ten consecutive months in 2010. MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” “Hardball with Chris Matthews,” “The Ed Show,” “Countdown with Keith Olbermann,” “The Rachel Maddow Show” and “The Last Word with Lawrence O’Donnell” all out-rated CNN in November among both A25-54 and total viewers.

Following are MSNBC ratings highlights for October:

  • MSNBC beat CNN in total day among A25-54 for the fifth straight month in November (156,000 vs. 118,000). MSNBC also topped CNN in total viewers for the month (422,00 vs. 394,000).
  • In primetime, MSNBC dominated CNN by 51 percent among A25-54 (277,000 vs. 184,000), by 36 percent among total viewers (816,000 vs. 600,000) and by 54 percent among younger viewers, 18-34 (74,000 vs. 48,000).
  • “Morning Joe” beat CNN’s “American Morning” for the ninth consecutive month (435,000 vs. 248,000), and for the fourth straight month among A25-54 (141,000 vs. 90,000)
  • “The Ed Show” beat CNN for the ninth straight month (738,000 vs. 551,000) and the fifth consecutive month in A25-54 (183,000 vs. 157,000).
  • At 7 p.m., “Hardball” beat CNN for the tenth straight month in total viewers (680,000 vs. 440,000) and for the ninth straight month in A25-54 (191,000 vs. 136,000).
  • “Countdown with Keith Olbermann” beat CNN at 8 p.m. for the 33rd consecutive month among total viewers and in A25-54 (310,000 vs. 129,000). “Countdown” delivered 1,156,000 viewers, while “Parker-Spitzer” drew 453,000. “Parker-Spitzer” is down in both categories in its second month.
  • “The Rachel Maddow Show” beat CNN’s “Larry King Live” for the tenth straight month in total viewers (1,020,000 vs. 635,000) and among A25-54 (302,000 vs. 161,000).
  • In its second month, “The Last Word with Lawrence O’Donnell” beat CNN’s “AC 360” total viewers (828,000 vs. 598,000) and among A25-54 (266,000 vs. 182,000).
  • MSNBC’s longform weekend programming (7 p.m.-2 a.m.) ranked number one among the cable news networks in A25-54 for the eighth month in a row, and beat CNN for the 17th consecutive month.
