Steve Baker Named Senior Broadcast Producer for ‘Nightline’

nightline logoBeginning May 27, “Nightline” will have a new senior broadcast producer: Steve Baker, who rejoins ABC News after two years working for “Entertainment Tonight” on the West Coast.

“I am confident that Steve’s knack for finding compelling narratives and buzz-worthy angles — along with his energy and leadership — will help guide our show far into the future,” Almin Karamehmedovic, the executive producer of “Nightline,” wrote in a note to staff this afternoon.

Before he left for “Entertainment Tonight” in 2012, Baker was a coordinating producer on “Nightline,” contributing to the show’s re-launch in 2005. He has previously worked on “20/20″ and began his career interning for ABC chief investigative correspondent Brian Ross.

Karamehmedovic’s full note is after the jump.

I am pleased to announce that Steve Baker is rejoining ABC News as Senior Broadcast Producer for Nightline beginning May 27th.

He returns after leaving in 2012 for an adventure on the West Coast working for Entertainment Tonight as a Supervising Producer/Associate Director.

Steve was instrumental during Nightline’s 2005 re-launch, joining the senior team as coordinating producer for Nightline and Nightline Prime before departing.

His time at Nightline is proof that as always, the best idea wins.  Early on, as a production assistant Steve pitched a story on teens with parents in the military that became a full show, earning him one of his first producing credits.

Over the years Steve has booked and produced numerous news-making interviews from Martha Stewart and Paula Abdul to Jesse James, Madonna and Cher.

In addition to his two Emmy awards, Steve was part of the team that earned a duPont Award and an Overseas Press Club Award for producing The Other War, a full show dedicated to the footage shot by Tim Hetherington and Sebastian Junger on the front lines of the war in Afghanistan.

And certainly no bio this month would be complete without mentioning Steve’s terrific work with Jeanmarie Condon on all of Barbara Walters’ special reports for Nightline.

Prior to Nightline Steve was at “20/20” but began at ABC interning for Brian Ross, at one point shooting undercover video for Brian’s Money Trail reports. I am confident that Steve’s knack for finding compelling narratives and buzz-worthy angles – along with his energy and leadership - will help guide our show far into the future.
