The Early Show Names Senior Broadcast Producer

The Early Show's interim EP Rick Kaplan is making management moves on the CBS morning broadcast. Kaplan named Zev Shalev as senior broadcast producer for the show. Shalev comes from CanWest Global where he has been VP of strategic programming and senior EP of information and entertainment programming. Shalev has also been senior EP of "Entertainment Tonight Canada."

Beyond entertainment, Shalev has covered news events, including the tsunami in Indonesia, the death of Princess Diana and South Africa's transition to democracy. Shalev's first day is Monday.

ZEV SHALEV IS NAMED A SENIOR BROADCAST PRODUCER FOR THE EARLY SHOW

Zev Shalev has been named a senior broadcast producer for THE EARLY SHOW, it was announced by Rick Kaplan, interim executive producer of the broadcast and executive producer of the CBS EVENING NEWS. The appointment is effective Monday, March 17.

During his career, Shalev has covered a wide-range of news events, including the tsunami in Indonesia, the death of Princess Diana and South Africa's transition to democracy. He has also been responsible for interviews with newsmakers such as Shimon Peres, Benjamin Netanyahu, Bill Gates, Nelson Mandela, Louis Farrakhan, Former Canadian Prime Minister Jean Chretien and Archbishop Desmond Tutu.

Shalev has been vice-president, strategic programming, as well as senior executive producer of information and entertainment programming, for CanWest Global since May 2007. In that role, he is responsible for program strategy and scheduling for E!, Canada's newest national network. Shalev has also been senior executive producer of Entertainment Tonight Canada, the nation's number one entertainment magazine, since 2005.

Prior to that, he served as the executive producer of Toronto 1's news and current affairs programming (2003-05). Shalev was the co-founder, CEO and executive producer of U8TV, Canada’s first Internet television channel (2000-02). He served as the executive producer of CTV's Canada AM (1998-2000), as well as a producer for CTV News Specials (1998-2000). Shalev was the assistant news editor for 702 Eyewitness News, South Africa's only independent radio station (1994-96), host of the Zev Shalev Show (1993-95) and senior producer of 702 News Day (1991-94). He began his broadcasting career as host of Collage, South Africa's top-rated national television arts program (1991-94).

He has been nominated for five Gemini Awards and a Canadian New Media Award for Best New Company. Shalev's programs have been nominated for a Radio and Television News Director’s Association Award (RTNDA) and two CANPRO Awards.

Shalev was born in Tel Aviv, Israel. He was graduated from the Wits University in Johannesburg, South Africa in 1994 with an honors degree in dramatic arts and media studies. He will relocate to New York City.
