Art Directors Club Names 50 New Young Guns
The jury of veteran Young Guns (old guns?) has spoken, and the Art Directors Club today announced the 50 winners of its ninth portfolio-based awards program for young creatives in visual media and design. The latest crop of Young Guns includes representatives from 14 countries (entries came from a whopping 43) who are doing extraordinary things in the fields of graphic design, illustration, advertising and art direction, photography, environmental design, film, animation and video, interactive design, sound design, product design, and—whew!—typography. You may recognize some of the names on the full list of winners (posted below), including Sara Cwynar, a graphic designer at The New York Times Magazine; “Young Jerk” Dan Cassaro; London-based director and animator James “Mutanthands” Wignall; and Jon Saunders of Psyop, whose headshot provides a portrait of the designer as a young topiary. A selection of personal and professional work by all of the winners goes on view at the ADC Gallery in New York on October 13, which is also the date of the opening party that will be DJed by Veronica Vasicka of Minimal Wave Records. Meanwhile, the winners of Young Guns 9 will receive a limited-edition award cube designed exclusively for this year’s highly creative cohort and as many Moleskine notebooks as their sleek yet capacious messenger bags will hold.
