There have loads of stories about how sewing is the new knitting. The way pundits talk, you'd think that women (and men) have abandoned their knitting needles in droves for sewing machines. But that hasn't been the case if anecdotal evidence is any evidence. Take Chicago's Stitching Salon, where this writer took refuge from he high winds last weeks to get help on blasted knitted skirt's she making. Low and behold, there had to be at least 20 women in there working there working their DPNs, crochet hooks, and knitting needles in the middle of the workday. Can you imagine? This is only how many years after Martha Stewart's poncho captured the world's attention? Amazing. Still more fascinating is how many readers crave more books by Stephanie Pearl-McPhee, aka the Yarn Harlot. Last time this writer looked, she had like a zillion responses to one post on her blog (ok, it was really the tally was in the 800+ ballpark, but still...). We're thinking there's clearly not an end to the number of knitting books hitting the shelves in sight. Now if you're a guy and you like to knit, there's even a list of men's knitting blogs. Isn't that cute?
