Back in the spring, we got to chatting about the numbers game—that is, the trend of magazines to plaster their covers with digits: “1,066 Paris and London Runway Highlights,” “911 Ways to Fix a Hair Emergency!” and so forth. “The smaller the number and the more specific, the better,” Men’s Health editor David Zinczenko told the New York Observer. But not when you’re talking about the fateful combination of fall fashion and freebies, apparently, because the cover of Condé Nast magalog Lucky‘s September issue trumpets a whopping 30,000 free gifts in its “biggest giveway ever.” Add that to the “981 ideas, updates, and pieces you’ll reach for all season,” and Lucky may have reached an all-time high cover sum, placing them in good stead to win the engraved, electroplated abacus (the “Magabacus”) we plan to give out at year’s end. But we wouldn’t put it past Elle to celebrate “42,856 fall looks to fall for.”
