The Naked Truth about Stefan Sagmeister’s Renamed Firm, ‘Sagmeister & Walsh’

In 1999, Stefan Sagmeister made graphic design history with a poster (at right) that featured the details of a speaking gig sliced—by a knife-wielding intern, legend has it—into the designer’s own naked torso. That proved effective, aside from the scarring. The poster, a sensation at the AIGA Detroit event, was hoarded by design fans and later acquired by London’s Design Museum for its permanent collection. And so when Sagmeister decided, after nearly two decades, to rename his eponymous firm Sagmeister & Walsh, he simply stripped—and his new partner, 24-year-old Jessica Walsh, was game to do the same. The eyebrow-raising image, posted below for your ogling, lays bare the naked truth that the NYC-based firm “will do anything for design.”
