Description
Summary: Under general supervision of the Field Service Manager, perform system design, troubleshooting, programming, and installations. Optimize, maintain, and repair 2-way and wireless communication systems, including complex radio systems and 911 communication centers for customers.
Essential Functions: Tasks that must be performed by the person in this job. Reasonable accommodations may be requested to enable individuals to perform these functions.
- Diagnose, troubleshoot, discuss, and resolve wireless communication equipment questions and problems with customers on-site, via phone, email, and at the shop.
- Perform diagnostic and analytical tests to diagnose and repair wireless communication equipment such as dispatch consoles, paging infrastructure, trunked radio systems, and mobile installations.
- Analyze test results and use them to repair and program radios and wireless equipment.
- Coordinate with customers, vendors, and management to determine deadlines, urgency, and schedules for repairs, maintenance, and programming.
- Prepare quotes and bids.
- Act as the shop's safety coordinator by collaborating with safety representatives for safety training and implementation.
- Perform wireless communication system programming according to industry standards and vendor criteria.
- Install radio and wireless mobile and base communication systems per industry practices and vendor standards.
- Report accidents, maintenance needs, or repairs while using company vehicles, following safe driving procedures.
- Be available to work Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and be on call for emergencies, including overtime with little notice.
- Travel locally or overnight as required.
Qualifications
Education and/or Experience:
- Three to five years' experience with 2-way radios and wireless communication systems. Ability to use computers for programming, troubleshooting, diagnostics, and repairs.
- Associate degree or equivalent in electronics or wireless system repair preferred but not required.
- Experience with diagnostics, repair, maintenance, and programming of wireless communication equipment.
- Knowledge of dispatch consoles, paging infrastructure, trunked radio systems, radio repair, mobile installations, DC, AC, and RF Theory.
Licenses, Certifications: Industry licenses such as FCC, FICA, or NARTE are required. Valid driver license and insurability are necessary. CET or NABER certification is preferred.
