Description
Summary: Under the general supervision of the service manager, perform system design, troubleshooting, programming, and installations. Optimize, maintain, and repair 2-way and wireless communication systems, including complex radio systems and 911 communication centers for customers.

- Diagnose, troubleshoot, discuss, and resolve issues related to 2-way radio wireless communication equipment with customers in person, by phone, email, or at the shop location.
- Perform diagnostic and analytical tests to diagnose and repair 2-way radio wireless communication equipment such as dispatch consoles, paging infrastructure, trunked radio systems, and mobile installations.
- Analyze diagnostic test results and use them to repair and program radios and wireless equipment.
- Work with customers to determine deadlines, urgency, schedules, and coordinate with vendors and management to meet customer needs.
- Provide technical information to assist in preparing quotes and bids.
- Perform programming of 2-way radio wireless communication systems according to industry practices and vendor criteria.
- Install 2-way radio and wireless mobile and base communication systems following industry standards and vendor guidelines.
- Report any accidents, maintenance needs, or repairs while using company vehicles, and follow safe driving procedures.
- Be available to work Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and be on call for overtime to support public safety and first responder customers.
- Travel as required, which may include local daily travel or overnight stays.
Qualifications
- Three to five years of experience in 2-way radio and wireless communication systems, with skills in troubleshooting, diagnostics, and repair.
- Associate degree or equivalent in electronics and wireless system repair is preferred but not required.
- Experience with diagnostics, repair, and maintenance of wireless communication equipment, including 2-way radios, transmitters, receivers, and antennas.
- Knowledge of dispatch consoles, paging infrastructure, trunked radio systems, and RF theory.
Licenses and Certifications: Industry licenses such as FCC, FICA, or NARTE are required. Valid driver’s license and insurability are necessary. CET or NABER certification is preferred.
