Nexstar Media Group Inc. is hiring: Reporter I, News in San Diego

ROLE: FOX 5 San Diego/KUSI News duopoly is seeking a reporter to support our top-rated newscasts, committed to serving the San Diego community. The successful candidate excels in ad-libbing, storytelling across all platforms, connecting with viewers, and demonstrating professionalism both on and off the air.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Accurate reporting of news stories
2. Attend editorial meetings and regularly pitch original story ideas
3. Develop community contacts and a network of news sources
4. Ad-lib live breaking news, tell compelling stories, and interact effectively with studio anchors
5. Collaborate with photographers, producers, and the news desk in story development
6. Update newsroom on story progress and elements
7. Utilize social media to inform the public about news stories
8. Participate in station community partnerships

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

1. B.A. or B.S. degree in journalism, communication, or related field, or equivalent experience
2. Preferably 3-5 years of TV news reporting experience in a medium to large market

3. Strong on-air presence — credible, personable, and engaging
4. Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills

7. Flexibility with schedule, including willingness to work additional hours, different shifts, and holidays as needed
8. Positive, solution-oriented team player attitude
9. Capable of performing under pressure and making decisions in extreme situations

COMPENSATION:

Starting at $31/hr, commensurate with experience and skill level.
