Job Description
The Media Specialist develops, implements, and maintains integrated information technology programs and services to ensure effective use of ideas and information by students and staff. They report directly to principals and supervise media assistants as assigned.
Responsibilities
As Information Specialist
- Participate in committees to develop activities, training, and programs for information technology dissemination.
- Support resource sharing with other information technology centers and agencies via loan services and electronic communication.
- Involve patrons in selecting and evaluating materials, databases, and equipment to support learning.
- Inform teachers about new materials and current technology developments.
- Provide consultative services on technology resources.
- Promote literacy and the use of the information technology center through public relations.
- Maintain statistical data, review media/technology resources, and manage catalogs and information relevant to educators.
- Ensure a developmentally appropriate collection that meets students' informational and recreational needs.
As Teacher
- Engage in professional development opportunities.
- Provide in-service training to promote effective technology use and innovative instruction.
- Assist in producing learning materials such as multimedia and videos.
- Partner with teachers to integrate information literacy strategies into curriculum activities.
As Instructional Partner
- Contribute to curriculum and instructional program design.
- Offer facilities for study and resource production.
- Use open access models for resource accessibility.
- Encourage creative and independent use of technology.
- Support students' development in reading, viewing, listening, evaluating, and communicating with technology.
- Collaborate with teachers to integrate resources and literacy skills into instruction.
As Program Administrator
- Plan, implement, and evaluate IT services aligned with student and district needs.
- Monitor standards and emerging practices in library, media, and IT fields.
- Manage budgets and maintain records.
- Organize and circulate IT resources efficiently.
- Maintain an up-to-date bibliographic database and informational resources.
- Supervise staff in the IT center.

Minimum Qualifications
