Purpose of the Position
The Digital Reporter serves as an officer of the court and is responsible for the audio capture, control of the proceedings as an officer of the court, and preservation of the verbatim record in depositions and other juridical proceedings. Duties are performed using digital recording technology based on the Company’s standards and best practices.
Responsibilities
- Follow AAERT’s and Esquire’s standards for digital reporting and recording.
- Prepare for assignments, including building worksheets and reviewing case info.
- Set up hardware for proceedings, test equipment prior to start.
- Produce quality audio/video recordings.
- Maintain control during proceedings as the independent authority.
- Create detailed annotations of testimony.
- Provide playback and exhibit marking as requested.
- Ensure security of exhibits, backup files, and complete worksheets.
- Perform hardware maintenance and follow security protocols.
- Prepare reports, logs, and respond to communications.
- Prioritize tasks and adapt to schedule changes.
- Maintain professionalism in appearance and demeanor.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Court procedures, legal documents, and terminology knowledge.
- Experience with digital audio/video technology.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
- Valid driver’s license, insurance, reliable transportation.
- Ability to pass background check.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and digital reporting standards.
- Ability to perform videography and technical services as needed.
- High touch-typing speed (60 WPM) with accuracy.
- Preferred: Associate’s degree or relevant experience in legal or audiovisual fields.
Experience and Certifications
- Proficiency in English; ability to interpret instructions.
- Must obtain AAERT Certified Electronic Reporter (CER) and Esquire’s Digital Reporter Certification.
- Maintain a Notary Public license.
