Responsibilities

Brasfield & Gorrie, a recognized leader in the construction industry, has an exciting opportunity available for a Design Manager in Birmingham, Alabama or Atlanta, Georgia.

The Design Manager will promote a culture focused on effective project delivery by supporting clients, project teams, and the company during design and preconstruction phases, ensuring a smooth transition to construction.

Responsibilities and Essential Duties include the following:

  • Lead project teams including owner, design team, and trade partners to achieve scope, schedule, and budget alignment.
  • Establish an integrated team experience through role clarity, effective communication, and fostering collaboration.
  • Facilitate and collaborate with internal departments and project teams.
  • Guide team alignment and onboarding at the start of design phases, maintaining accountability throughout.
  • Coordinate design and decision-making with construction, design teams, and owners.
  • Manage, mentor, and guide design and preconstruction team members for clear direction and execution.
  • Support design assist trade partners to ensure effective project integration.
  • Assist in negotiations and decisions to define project scope and program, facilitating business case validation.
  • Engage with clients and designers to promote Brasfield & Gorrie’s integrated delivery approach.

Qualifications

Education, Skills, Knowledge, and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in architecture, industrial engineering, or related design field.
  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience.
  • At least 5 years in group facilitation and collaborative delivery methods (e.g., Design Build, Conceptual Design Development).
  • Experience in industrial manufacturing design, process layout, process design, cleanroom, food, and beverage industries preferred.
  • Proficiency in CAD and Revit is preferred.
  • Willingness and ability to travel up to 60%.
  • Passionate about leading change and industry process improvements.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills.
  • Confident in speaking to groups of 30+.
  • Skilled in coaching diverse groups.
  • Desire to learn new skills.
