Job Title: Wireless Communications Technician
Summary: Performs system troubleshooting and design for radio and wireless communications systems by executing the following duties.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Adjusts controls and tests systems using specified equipment and runs diagnostic checks.
- Troubleshoots customer concerns and resolves issues with their communications systems in the field and in the shop.
- Installs, repairs, and maintains equipment based on testing results; coordinates repairs with customers and vendors to ensure resolution.
- Assists with quotes and bids to determine customer needs.
- Maintains operation of complex radio systems and 911 communications centers.
- Performs system programming following industry standards.
- Completes installation of radio and wireless mobile and base communication systems.
Other Skills and Abilities:
- Thorough knowledge of wireless communication systems, electronic and RF principles, and NetSuite operations.
- Ability to work independently on complex radio systems.
- Strong troubleshooting skills and basic system design knowledge.
- Capability to repair and maintain complex radio systems and 911 communication centers, with knowledge of infrastructure components such as repeaters, mobiles, portables, and signaling equipment.
- Knowledge of industry-standard test equipment.
- Willingness and ability to travel locally or overnight as required.
Education and Experience:
- 5-7 years of experience in 2-way radio and wireless communication systems.
- Proficiency in computer programming, troubleshooting, diagnostics, and repair of complex communication systems.
- Associate degree or equivalent in electronics and wireless system repair is preferred but not required.
- Experience with diagnostics, repair, maintenance, and programming of wireless communication equipment.
- Experience with dispatch consoles, paging infrastructure, and trunked radio systems.
- Knowledge of radio repair, mobile installations, DC, AC, and RF theory.
- Motorola experience is a plus.
Licenses and Certifications: Industry license (FCC, FICA, or NARTE), valid driver’s license, insurability, and certifications such as CET or NABER.
