Pay Rate: $13-15/hour * Schedule: Monday-Thursday 9-6, Alternating Fridays, 8-2:30, Alternating Sat (1st and 3rd), Occasional evenings * Department: Member Services * Supervisor: Library Director * Location: Martin Library
The Volunteer Coordinator will be enthusiastic about Martin Library and our community. They will attract a diverse population of library users and supporters. This position performs two primary roles. The Volunteer Coordinator will be aware of the programs and services offered at the library and seek a diverse group of volunteers to support those services.

General Requirements
Candidate must be an enthusiastic team player and able to provide excellent customer service to a diverse population. This position requires someone who has strong communication skills and who is passionate about helping individuals in the community recognize and seek opportunities. It is important that the candidate be dependable, flexible, a self-starter and feel comfortable working with individuals of all ages and backgrounds.
Education & Experience Requirements
- Minimum of Bachelor’s degree and 2 years working with volunteers and teens in the community.
- Candidate must have established connections with and knowledge of organizations and businesses in York City.
- Candidates must have experience with technology related to the arts, music, digital design etc.
- Candidate must be able to build relationships with individuals, community organizations and businesses
- Candidate must have experience with databases; software applications such as Microsoft Office and online alternatives
- Bilingual (Spanish & English) preferred.
- Experience working and/or volunteering in an urban setting required.
- PA Child Abuse Clearance, PA Criminal History Clearance, FBI fingerprint-based Criminal History Clearance, and Mandated Reporter Training Certificate are required.
Duties and Responsibilities
Volunteer Coordinator
- Recruit, orient and train library volunteers with support from coordinators and department managers
- Connects with library staff to determine volunteer needs, including skill sets, shift openings and special projects
- Engages library staff in the selection, orientation, and training process for new volunteers (onboarding)
- Reviews and processes paper or online volunteer applications and assists all YCL volunteer recruitment and retention staff.
- Connects with, recognizes, and awards active volunteers on a regular basis
- Maintains needed volunteer database with functionality to track volunteer statistics and prepare monthly reports
Routine Tasks
- Informs library users of Library policies and rules and enforces these.
- Completes Incident Reports in a timely manner.
- Performs opening and closing procedures and maintains a welcoming, neat, orderly appearance at Martin Library
- Assists with both in-house and outreach events
- Performs duties associated with library service desks
- Performing additional duties and special projects, as directed by management
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds from ground level to waist level and be able to bend, squat, sit on the floor and kneel occasionally throughout work shift.
- Must be able to push/pull carts weighing up to 120 pounds.
- Must be able to reach, lift, and stretch throughout the workday.
- Must be able to stand and/or walk up to four hours at a time.
- Must be able to sit for up to four hours at a time
