Role Description:

We are seeking a Breakdown Editor to join our team in a full-time role. The Breakdown Editor is responsible for the Pre and Post Production processes surrounding Jomboy Media’s flagship property. The editor will work closely with Jimmy to learn his working style, and develop workflows to maximize efficiency within that style. For pre-production, this position will focus on sourcing, gathering, syncing, and color-coding footage in Adobe Premiere. For post-production, this position will focus on syncing Jomboy’s voiceover with footage, managing ad placement, publishing on YouTube (including title and thumbnail), and distributing internally for Socials. The role will primarily involve the pre-production process at the onset and continue to evolve as the Breakdown Editor learns the editing style required for this property. The overarching goal is to increase efficiency while growing the JM community through this main channel series.

In addition to developing an efficient workflow, the Breakdown Editor’s greatest asset is availability. Breakdowns are timely content, meaning pre-production will regularly occur at night, while sporting events are live. This position will be able to prepare options to pass to Jimmy to start working on the following morning, some of which he will choose to use, while others will be discarded based on priority and availability. The Breakdown Editor should expect that not everything prepped will be used and cannot get discouraged by this fact.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities Include:

• Overseeing day-to-day Breakdown operations: including planning, scheduling, sourcing, and editing.
• Maintaining timelines and deadlines for all departments affiliated with filming, including Sales, Socials, and more.
• Work well with a team of social editors, creators and hosts that will pitch, develop, produce, record, and edit original video podcast programming.
• Take initiative in pitching solid host, guest, segment, and story ideas.
• Use the full Adobe Suite to produce, edit and deliver captivating and engaging content that grows our community.
• Coordinate ad reads and responsibilities with the sales team and communicate all obligations to the hosts.
• Collaborating with the social team regarding clip creation, distribution, and viewership across all platforms.
• Create enticing thumbnails paired with optimized titles and descriptions, which will help increase online interest and viewership
• Track video after upload and adjust title/thumbnail strategy to boost performance
• Identify trends linking title/thumbnail/subject to increased viewership to share with team
• Gather video performance data to understand what works and what doesn’t
• Stay updated on the latest trends and best practices in digital media and social content creation, continuously refining techniques to enhance the quality and effectiveness of produced content
• Collaborate with creators, socials, and sales teams to create various forms of shareable content through YouTube Shorts and other platforms and initiatives

Key Qualities and Qualifications:

• We work five days a week in the office at Jomboy Media, located in NYC.
• Advanced Adobe Premiere editing & Photoshop design skills (and a familiarity with the rest of the Adobe Creative Suite).
• Excellent communication, organization, time management skills and ability to balance priorities across multiple projects.
• Strong project management skills—able to conceptualize goals and complete projects according to meticulous timelines.
• Experience uploading and editing long-form and Shorts for YouTube.
• Podcast and multimedia producers with 3+ years of producing and production experience within a news media outlet, digital media outlet preferred
• Understand the YouTube algorithm and KPIs such as click thru rate, engagement rate and others
• Ability to work well with others in a highly collaborative environment

Compensation

The compensation will be based on a range of $65,000 - $75,000 annually. The range represents the low and high end of the base salary someone in this role may earn. Salary will vary based on various factors, including but not limited to professional experience, training, associated responsibilities, and other business and organizational needs. The range listed is just one component of our total compensation package for employees. Salary decisions are dependent on the circumstances of each hire. This role is eligible for our end-of-year company bonus and, based on key performance indicators at the end of year two, an additional performance-based bonus.
