The Office of the District Attorney, Bronx County (“BXDA”), is charged with ensuring public safety and striving for equal justice for over 1.4 million members of the Bronx community. By "Pursuing Justice with Integrity," BXDA focuses on assisting crime victims while ensuring fairness to defendants. The BXDA aims to balance appropriate punishment with justice considerations. In furtherance of this mission, BXDA seeks experienced and enthusiastic Reporter / Stenographer.

Job Responsibilities

  • Report to the Grand Jury to take verbatim testimony on a Stenographic machine provided by the Office.
  • Use Case Catalyst System with a personal dictionary to produce transcripts efficiently.
  • Maintain accurate records and case files.
  • Testify in court regarding the accuracy of transcripts, when required.
  • Transcribe audio files for ADAs for hearings and trials.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent and a Graduate Certificate at 225 WPM from a Court Reporting Institution.
  • Ability to take two-voice testimony at an average of 175 words per minute.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: A four-year high school diploma or its equivalent approved by a State’s Department of Education or recognized accrediting organization.

Requirements To Be Appointed

Stenotype Proficiency: Demonstrate proficiency to take two-voice dictation at 175 words per minute and transcribe during the appointment interview.

Additional Notes

To qualify for Assignment Level II, at least one year of satisfactory experience in an office of a District Attorney performing Level I duties is required.

Preferred Skills

  • Ability to transcribe testimony in a timely manner using Case Catalyst.
  • Ability to read back testimony from notes.
  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Adobe Acrobat.
  • Excellent time management and multitasking skills.
  • Familiarity with court services.
  • Ability to work independently under deadlines.
