The Office of the District Attorney, Bronx County (“BXDA”) is charged with the twin goals of ensuring public safety and striving for equal justice for the over 1.4 million members of the Bronx County community. By “Pursuing Justice with Integrity,” the BXDA places a focus on assistance for crime victims while simultaneously ensuring fairness to defendants. Moreover, the BXDA aims to balance the need to seek appropriate punishment for certain crimes while recognizing when punitive measures do not adequately advance justice. In furtherance of this mission, the BXDA seeks an experienced and enthusiastic Reporter / Stenographer.
Job Responsibilities
- Take verbatim testimony on a stenographic machine for the Grand Jury.
- Use the Case Catalyst System with a personal dictionary to produce transcripts in an expeditious time frame.
- Keep accurate records and files of cases.
- Appear in court to testify, when required, as to the accuracy of transcripts.
- Transcribe audio files for ADAs for hearings and/or trials.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
Preferred Qualifications
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Graduate Certificate at a 225 WPM rate from a Court Reporting Institution.
- Ability to take two‑voice testimony at an average of 175 words per minute.
Minimum Qualifications
- By the last day of the Application Period, possess a four‑year high‑school diploma or its educational equivalent approved by a State’s Department of Education or a recognized accrediting organization.
Requirements to be Appointed
- Demonstrate proficiency to take two‑voice dictation using a stenotype machine at 175 WPM and transcribe it during the interview.
Special Note
To be eligible for Assignment Level II, an incumbent must have at least one year of satisfactory experience working in an office of a District Attorney performing Assignment Level I duties.
Preferred Skills
- Transcribe testimony in a timely manner using Case Catalyst.
- Read back testimony from notes for Grand Jury or ADA.
- Maintain a high degree of confidentiality.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Adobe Acrobat.
- Excellent time management skills.
- Strong desire and ability to multi‑task in a fast‑paced environment.
- Familiarity with general court services.
- Work independently and effectively under deadlines.

Salary: $76,890.00 – $97,606.00
