Nexstar Media Group Inc. is hiring: Digital Producer in Richmond

The WRIC Digital Producer leads the transition from broadcast-focused newsrooms to multi-platform newsrooms through active daily examples; providing training in methods, processes, and tactics, as well as in creating/editing original content beyond that produced for on-air.

The selected candidate publishes content throughout the day and applies knowledge of digital best practices to choose topics, write stories, collaborate with the news team, and maximize the reach of the website, mobile app, and primary social media channels.

Responsibilities:

1. Develops and leads a winning strategy for digital content.
2. Writes stories for the web and other digital platforms.
3. Leads in writing and sharing breaking news updates and collaborates with reporters in the field.
4. Ensures all content meets company standards for journalistic integrity and production quality.
5. Uses social media and the website to build and reinforce brand recognition and drive audience engagement across platforms.
6. Has an expert understanding of Facebook, Twitter, and other social media platforms.
7. Finds new ways to use social media and the website to engage viewers.
8. Determines a story's emphasis, length, and format, organizing material accordingly.
9. Reviews copy and corrects errors in content, grammar, and punctuation following prescribed editorial style and formatting guidelines.
10. Researches and analyzes background information related to news stories to provide complete and accurate information.
11. Gathers information about events through research, interviews, experience, or attendance at various functions.
12. Checks reference materials to obtain relevant facts.
13. Builds and manages digital campaigns to promote local shows and specials.
14. Manages online content and understands best practices.
15. Performs other duties as assigned.
16. Pitches local and trending stories during editorial meetings.

Requirements & Skills:

• Degree in journalism; experience with daily newspapers or news sites required; live, working web samples and/or print pages preferred.
• Proficiency in Associated Press style, Adobe Photoshop, Dreamweaver, and Basic HTML preferred.
• Knowledge of CSS and other relevant technologies is a plus.
• Excellent communication skills for internal and external interactions.
• Maintains a positive work environment through active team participation and cooperation.
• Responds positively to feedback.

Physical Demands & Work Environment:

Must be able to sit, conduct telephone conversations, use electronic mail, write letters and memos, participate in face-to-face discussions, make independent decisions impacting co-workers, work outdoors occasionally in all weather conditions, and indoors in controlled environments. Must be able to lift, set up, and operate equipment weighing up to 25 pounds, and handle objects, tools, or controls. Repetitive movements are required. Work may involve exposure to bright or inadequate lighting conditions.
