Part of SAS Performing Arts Company and Studios' mission is to recognize and create opportunities for emerging artists, supporting their artistic development.
Since 2020, SAS has awarded over $25,000 to emerging artists, helping launch careers. Past winners have participated in major programs and debuted with renowned companies worldwide, including The Metropolitan Opera, Tulsa Opera, Florida Grand Opera, The English National Opera, and Staatsoper Berlin.
Event Dates: Semifinals on November 21, 2025, and Finals on November 23, 2025, held live in New York City.
Prizes:
- 1st Prize: $3,000 sponsored by Charles and Edith Upton
- 2nd Prize: $1,500 sponsored by the Friends of SAS Performing Arts Club
- 3rd Prize: $1,000 - The Luana DeVol Award for Dramatic Voices
- Classical Cross Over Award: $250 - The Frank Surdi Memorial Award
- LC Vaughn Sankofa Memorial Award for Emerging African American Artists: $150
- Incentive Grants: $100 each
Eligibility:
- Open to performers aspiring a career in opera and classical crossover.
- Repertoire submissions are final; no changes allowed.
- Materials submitted are non-returnable.
- Application submission does not guarantee an audition; selected participants will be notified via email.
- An accompanist will be provided at no cost.
- Application fee: $40 (non-refundable).
- SAS Performing Arts Company and Studios is not responsible for expenses incurred during the competition.
- Performers should demonstrate proper technique, understanding of the text, and style of their selection through music and lyrics.
- Classical crossover involves a blend of classical and popular music, often performed in English, targeting fans of both genres.
