Job Details

  • Job Title: Technical Writer
  • Onsite Requirement: New York, City. A couple of days onsite required and travel to different sites.
  • Hours: Variable hour, part-time position.

Job Summary

The Technical Writer will document technical processes, system architectures, and SOPs to support enterprise data migrations, system integrations, and software development initiatives. They will work closely with engineers, architects, and project managers to produce clear, concise documentation for diverse audiences, supporting compliance, training, and knowledge-sharing throughout the software development lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Develop and maintain technical documentation for data migration strategies, including legacy to modern database transitions.
  2. Document system architectures, data models, integration layers, and API endpoints.
  3. Create user guides, SOPs, quick references, and technical manuals for internal platforms and processes.
  4. Translate complex technical concepts into understandable documentation for stakeholders, compliance teams, and end users.
  5. Collaborate with data architects, developers, and SMEs to gather accurate information.
  6. Document security and compliance practices, including handling of PII, FERPA, encryption, and access protocols.
  7. Support development of training and onboarding materials.
  8. Maintain version control and update documents aligned with project timelines.

Requirements

  1. 5+ years of experience in technical writing.
  2. Bachelor’s degree in English, Journalism, Liberal Arts, or related field.
  3. Proficiency with tools such as Microsoft Word, Visio, Confluence, SharePoint, or similar.
  4. Experience writing for systems handling sensitive or regulated data (e.g., PII, FERPA) is preferred.
  5. Excellent communication and collaboration skills for interfacing with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  6. Familiarity with government or education sectors, especially DOE, is a plus.

Compensation & Benefits

Estimated hourly rate: $53.00 - $62.00, with a target of $57.00. Benefits include health insurance, retirement plans, paid leave, holidays, professional development, and lifestyle benefits.
