Job Title:
Branding Iron Sports Editor
Job Purpose:
To provide edited copy through stories and reports from writers for publication in the newspaper and online.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Meet with online editor daily for consultation and assignment.
- Assign stories to writers in consultation with the online editor.
- Work with visual editor to assign photographers and videographers to cover events.
- Edit copy for the sports sections.
- Generate story ideas for the sports section.
- Supervise the work of sports writers.
- Write four stories each week.
- Conduct meetings with writers and reporters for progress reports and story ideas.
- Maintain regular office hours of at least 15 hours per week.
- Attend weekly editorial meetings.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Full-time student
- Minimum 2.5 GPA
- Experience in newspaper writing, including news stories
- Available to start work on August 18, 2025
- Available for publication deadlines on Sundays and Wednesday nights
- Available Tuesdays from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. for training
Desired Qualifications:
- Some supervisory experience
- Knowledge of what constitutes a good newspaper story and editorial content
- Prior newspaper experience
- Knowledge of AP style or willingness to learn
