Job Title:

Branding Iron Sports Editor

Job Purpose:

To provide edited copy through stories and reports from writers for publication in the newspaper and online.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Meet with online editor daily for consultation and assignment.
2. Assign stories to writers in consultation with the online editor.
3. Work with visual editor to assign photographers and videographers to cover events.
4. Edit copy for the sports sections.
5. Generate story ideas for the sports section.
6. Supervise the work of sports writers.
7. Write four stories each week.
8. Conduct meetings with writers and reporters for progress reports and story ideas.
9. Maintain regular office hours of at least 15 hours per week.
10. Attend weekly editorial meetings.
11. Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Full-time student
• Minimum 2.5 GPA
• Experience in newspaper writing, including news stories
• Available to start work on August 18, 2025
• Available for publication deadlines on Sundays and Wednesday nights
• Available Tuesdays from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. for training

Desired Qualifications:

• Some supervisory experience
• Knowledge of what constitutes a good newspaper story and editorial content
• Prior newspaper experience
• Knowledge of AP style or willingness to learn
