Job Summary
The Sr. Design Artist is responsible for creating consumer-focused graphics that meet and exceed the needs of Carhartt’s hardworking consumers. This role involves creating art within their assigned category, collaborating with cross-functional partners and category managers to develop a cohesive product assortment. The designer will also assist with branded on-product trim and label design, communicating effectively to meet deadlines and ensure a top-tier product lineup. Additional responsibilities may include participating in special projects related to company and department initiatives.
Responsibilities
- Design commercially viable artwork specific to styling and fabrications, collaborating with product design and merchandising, ensuring all designs meet Carhartt’s quality standards.
- Stay current with market trends and translate concepts into functional workwear designs.
- Manage all artwork phases from inspiration to production handoff, including approval of strike-offs and placements, and communicate updates to relevant partners.
- Visit factories and vendors as needed for development.
- Contribute to seasonal go-to-market milestone meetings.
- Expand knowledge of textile and print innovations to develop new concepts each season.
- Stay updated on training needs and new technologies related to printing and software.
- Participate in market trips, trade shows, and share insights on market and product trends.
- Mentor guest artists and interns, providing creative and technical guidance.
- Foster a culture of innovation and continuous improvement within the design team.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Design, Graphic Design, or related field, or equivalent experience.
- Minimum 5 years of relevant graphics development experience.
- Proficiency with various illustration styles, typography, and experience with print, applique, and embroidery preferred.
- Excellent communication skills for interaction with all levels and external partners.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Outstanding presentation skills.
- Ability to develop strong team relationships.
- Knowledge of apparel construction is a plus.
- Advanced skills in Adobe Creative Cloud; adaptability to new software solutions is essential.
Physical Requirements & Work Environment
- Office setting with extended periods of sitting, standing, and computer work.
- Light lifting up to 10 lbs.
- Willingness to work some weekends and travel nationally/internationally (up to 20%).
- Hybrid work location: on-site as needed.
- Tobacco-free workplace.
