Job Summary

The Sr. Design Artist is responsible for the creation of consumer-focused graphics that meet and exceed the changing needs of Carhartt's hardworking consumers. This position will create all art within their assigned category, working with cross-functional partners, and category managers to develop a cohesive art assortment. This designer will also assist with branded on-product trim and label design. They will clearly communicate with the internal team as well as cross-functional and external partners to meet all deadlines set to create a Carhartt worthy best-in-class product assortment. Additional responsibilities may involve participating in special projects pertaining to company and/or department initiatives.

Associate Responsibilities
  • Design commercially viable artwork specific to styling/fabrications in collaboration with product design and merchandising. Ensuring that all designs meet or exceed Carhartt's quality standards
  • Stay current with both market trends and translate specific concept, detail and technique options into the line for best-in-class, functional workwear
  • Own all artwork phases from inspiration to creation of Product Development/Vendor handoff, approval of strike off/handlooms and size and placements. Communicate all changes/updates as needed to appropriate partners
  • Visit factories and vendors as needed for development purposes
  • Contribute to seasonal GTM milestone meeting setups as necessary
  • Continually expand knowledge in innovations in textile/print industry and leverage findings to develop new concepts each season
  • Keep up to date on training needs as well as new technologies as it relates to in-house printers and software
  • Coordinate/Participate in market trips, trade shows and own share out of market &
    product insights
  • Mentor and guide guest artists and/or artists in rotation, providing direction in both the creative and technical aspects of their job
  • Build a culture that explores new ideas, different positions, and alternatives to achieve results, which in turn empowers the Design Resources Department to develop and share new methodologies as needed to improve process and results.
Required Education
  • Bachelor's degree in Design, Graphic Design, or other related field; or equivalent years of related experience in lieu of degree.
Required Skills & Experience
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant graphics development work experience.
  • Experience with various styles of illustrations, manipulating and working with typography
    • Experience with print and applique & embroidery, preferred.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with the proven ability to communicate with all levels including management and external partners/vendors.
  • Outstanding organizational skills with demonstrated ability to prioritize workload and attention to detail.
  • Outstanding presentation skills with the ability to present clear and concise messaging with the audience/meeting attendees.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to develop strong relationships and work effectively in a team environment.
  • Apparel and construction knowledge preferred.
  • Advanced computer knowledge, specifically in Adobe Creative Cloud required. Ability to adapt to new software solutions is needed.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
  • Typical office environment, office/cubicle setting
  • Extended periods of time sitting, standing, typing on a computer is required
  • Light lifting may be required up to 10 lbs.
  • Willing to work some weekends if necessary
  • National and international travel required (up to 20%)
  • This position has a Hybrid location: Associate will work on-site regularly as needed for work activities.
