An individual with strong expertise in integrating radio communications equipment and systems. The candidate will supervise the operations, services, and personnel related to the Public Safety Radio System.
Minimum Qualifications
- Associate's Degree in Information Technology, Engineering, Electronics, Business Administration, Public Administration, or a related field.
- Four (4) years of experience in communications systems, project management, business management, or public administration.
- or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Valid Texas Driver's License.
Preferred:
- FCC General/Operator license.
Position Overview
Under general supervision, supervises the operations, services, and staff of the multi-agency Public Safety Radio System (PSRS) in the Office of Emergency Management (OEM). Maintains, installs, and repairs communication systems, equipment, components, and peripheral devices. Installs and maintains operating system software and servers.
Essential Functions
- Supervises and directs the daily activities of PSRS communications staff; assigns workload; plans, prioritizes, and oversees tasks and projects. Provides technical leadership, training, and performance evaluations. Addresses technical issues and reviews work for quality and timeliness.
- Supports and maintains radios for City, County, and outside agencies, including dispatch center radio consoles, on a 24/7 basis.
- Maintains the master radio database for all radios, consoles, and devices assigned to the City's radio system.
- Performs installations of software security updates, patches, hot fixes, and radio service software for various operating systems supporting the Motorola P25 digital radio system and dispatch center.
- Backs up Radio Network Security and Data servers, manages radio management terminals and databases, monitors alarm systems, and responds to site alarms. Assists with reporting tower light outages to the FAA as needed.
- Supervises maintenance and repair of radio communication systems and equipment; troubleshoots complex system issues; assists technicians; ensures compliance with state and federal regulations.
- Coordinates work activities, assists technicians with workload planning, fault analysis, and technical issues. Manages work orders, schedules, inventory, and develops equipment specifications.
- Researches regulations and technical materials to ensure equipment compliance with FCC rules and regulations. Maintains City FCC licenses.
- Coordinates with outside agencies, maintains system documentation, and interprets policies and procedures.
- Monitors the PSRS for errors, interference, and traffic patterns.
- Establishes procedures and guidelines for system operations.
- May respond afterhours, including holidays and weekends, during emergencies.
