Position Details
Regular Hours: 40 hours per week. May include evenings and weekends.
The James Memorial Public Library (a tax-supported city library) Board of Trustees seeks an energetic library director to manage and oversee the day-to-day operations of the Library. The director must be a person of high integrity, capable of creating a vision for the library, and possess the skills necessary to bring that vision into reality. They must be detail-oriented, have clear communication skills, be comfortable with technology, have a working knowledge of library management systems, possess working knowledge of Microsoft Office, and be willing to learn and teach staff and patrons.
Required Qualifications and Experience
- High School Diploma
- Computer and internet experience
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office
- Must be able to lift and carry 25 pounds
- Must possess a current driver’s license
- Previous library experience preferred
Responsibilities
- Maintain positive and productive working relationships with the library board, city officials, and community leaders.
- Manage bills and oversee daily operations, equipment, and maintenance of the library.
- Perform administrative tasks, including supervising employees and volunteers.
- Create and manage staff schedules.
- Place material orders and oversee the processing and maintenance of materials.
- Maintain the building and supervise new constructions or remodeling projects.
- Prepare a yearly budget for board approval.
- Generate monthly data collection reports.
- Oversee the maintenance of the library’s website.
- Develop and promote library services and programs.
- Seek grant funding for programming and technology needs.
- Administer policies approved by the board, ensuring compliance with state and federal laws.
- Catalog new materials and manage collection development duties.
- Create and update policies as needed.
- Coordinate outreach services and home delivery programs.
- Acquire Advanced Cataloging Certification for Missouri Evergreen.
- Attend quarterly cataloging meetings.
- Make executive decisions for the library.
- Maintain library standards according to the Secretary of State.
- Perform other duties as necessary.
