The San Francisco office of SmithGroup is seeking a Senior Interior Designer to join our Longevity Living Studio. You will create environments that are elegant, functional, and promote holistic wellness—spaces that celebrate life at every stage. Our work covers a broad spectrum of Longevity Living typologies, including active adult, independent living, assisted living, memory care, skilled nursing, and a variety of amenity spaces.
Responsibilities include:
- Leading design efforts across multiple offices for all project stages, including client and internal team leadership.
- Collaborating closely with clients to understand their vision and translating it into compelling, functional environments.
- Developing and presenting design concepts that embrace holistic wellness with residential and hospitality principles.
- Managing projects by developing scope, schedules, quality control, and fee management.
- Leading programming, conceptualization, development, and integration of strategic design solutions.
- Consulting with manufacturers, researching, and evaluating materials.
- Documenting architectural and interior design drawings.
- Assisting in construction administration, including responding to RFIs, preparing sketches, addendums, and site visits.
- Overseeing the design work of others to ensure cohesive and integrated designs, supervising drawing preparations for all phases, and maintaining quality standards.
- Leading all phases of the design process, including programming and developing workplace standards.
- Mentoring junior staff and participating in performance coaching.
- Participating in recruitment and interviewing processes as needed.
Ideal candidate qualifications:
- Proven experience designing senior living environments, including independent and assisted living, memory care, skilled nursing, and amenities.
- Strong background in residential and hospitality design.
- Exceptional leadership skills and ability to inspire clients through storytelling and vision.
- Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Interior Design, or equivalent.
- Minimum of 15 years of related experience.
- LEED AP preferred; Architectural or Interior Design registration required.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Revit, AutoCAD, SketchUp, Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign.
- Technical competence in schematic design through construction documentation.
- Ability to contribute effectively within an interdisciplinary team environment.
