EXAMINATION PROCESS
- General Assessment Examination - assesses job-related knowledge and understanding of fundamental instructional media technician functions.
Examination Date: TBD - Structured Oral Interview - assesses technical knowledge and experience, and one's general fitness for successful performance in the position.

Note: Competitors in any test shall take the test at the prescribed time unless religious affiliation, jury duty, military service, serious illness, or bereavement in the immediate family requires other arrangements. Advance written notice must be provided to the director. Decisions for alternate test date(s) are at the discretion of the director.
A total score will be computed using weighted scores on the written and oral examinations. Applicants must receive a passing score on each exam to be placed on the eligibility list.
VACANCY: ASSIGNMENT TYPE(S): 10 Month/Year - 4.5 Hrs/Day
Job Description: Under general supervision, performs a variety of library and instructional media technical and clerical work promoting student literacy and library skills. Responsibilities include selecting, receiving, cataloging, processing books and materials supporting the K-12 curriculum, and other related tasks.
Performs technical and clerical duties related to the selection, ordering, receipt, processing, cataloging, and circulation of library materials, assisting students and teachers in locating resources, including computer and online resources.
May provide literature and library skills presentations, operate new computer programs, and assist with equipment. Catalogs and classifies materials, maintains databases and records, and manages collections and displays.
Handles audiovisual equipment, manages circulation, conducts inventories, and maintains order among students in the media center.
Experience: One year of clerical experience including some library work or two years of related experience or 60 college units. Experience working with K-12 students and coursework in child development are desirable.
Education: High school diploma or equivalent required. At least two years (48 units) of college coursework or an associate degree preferred.
Knowledge of:
Dewey Decimal Classification, library terminology, and reference sources; modern office practices and proper English usage.
Ability to:
Use library-related computer software; familiarize with district curriculum and literature; perform complex library work independently; maintain order among students; operate office and audiovisual equipment; operate spreadsheet and word processing software; establish cooperative relationships.
