POSITION DESCRIPTION:
The UI/UX Designer will be responsible for designing and developing intuitive user interfaces and experiences for applications. They will collaborate with stakeholders, developers, and business analysts to ensure user-centered design. Furthermore, they will conduct usability testing, wireframing, and prototyping to refine and enhance designs, ensuring the final product meets user needs and business objectives.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelors of Science in Computer Science, or related field
- 4+ years working with user-centered design
- Portfolio showcasing strong design and research abilities
- Extensive experience in large scale design and implementation projects
- Experience with developing inclusive design for all populations by following the guidelines from WCAG
- Masters in User Centered Design, or related field (desired)
- Experience working with education systems or Department of Education (desired)
CERTIFICATIONS:
- Certified Usability Analyst (CUA) or equivalent
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Conduct user research, usability testing, and stakeholder interviews to assist with design decisions
- Create wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity mockups for responsive web applications
- Collaborate with developers to ensure feasibility and implementation accuracy
- Ensure designs meet DOE accessibility, branding, and usability standards (WCAG 2.1+)
SKILLS:
- Proficient working with Adobe XD, Figma, Sketch, Axure, HTML/CSS, JavaScript, usability testing tools, MS Visio/Lucid Chart
- Ability to recognize and understand design debt
- Ability to clearly communicate user-centered methods and their values
- Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills
- Ability to present design to stakeholders and implement design feedback
- Ability to work collaboratively with cross functional teams as well as independently
- Basic knowledge of the Waterfall development methodology
