This role is based remotely but has expectations based on proximity to Austin, Warren, or Sunnyvale. Relocation benefits may be available.

About the Role

We’re seeking a highly skilled Graphic Designer with 7–10 years of experience, expertise in design systems, Figma, and designing for software, web, and mobile. You will develop and maintain the GM Design System, creating reusable components, documentation, and guidance, ensuring consistency, accessibility, and quality across digital platforms.

You should have a passion for modernism, systems thinking, and scalable, well-documented design, focusing on clarity, structure, and functionality. Collaboration with engineers to ensure high-fidelity implementation is essential.

You will work cross-functionally across vehicle OS, web, and mobile platforms to keep the design system unified and shared, while accommodating platform-specific needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and maintain components within the GM Design System for consistency and maintainability.
  • Manage shared libraries in Figma, including UI kits, tokens, and documentation.
  • Create documentation and guidance pages for Figma UI Kits.
  • Collaborate with front-end developers to ensure accurate implementation of designs.
  • Participate in grooming and sprint planning to align system updates with development timelines.
  • Develop documentation, usage guidelines, and specifications for system components.
  • Ensure accessibility, scalability, and consistency across digital products.
  • Work with product designers, engineers, and brand teams to unify the system across vehicle OS, web, and mobile platforms.
  • Conduct audits and propose enhancements based on feedback and needs.
  • Promote best practices in systems design, tooling, and workflows.
  • Support and mentor a small team of 2–3 designers, fostering growth and collaboration.

Qualifications

  • 7–10 years in digital product design, with a focus on design systems and component-based design.
  • Expertise in Figma, including auto layout, variants, tokens, and library management.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator and vector-based design.
  • Experience designing for web, mobile, and software with responsive UI knowledge.
  • Ability to document and communicate design decisions clearly.
  • Experience working with front-end developers in agile environments.
  • Strong understanding of typography, visual hierarchy, and UI best practices.
  • Knowledge of versioning, naming conventions, and scalable workflows.
  • Familiarity with accessibility standards (WCAG), prototyping, and design tokens.
  • Ability to create click-through prototypes.

Compensation

  • The salary range is $177,000 - $270,900, based on experience and location.
  • Incentive pay is available based on performance and company results.
