Video Editor
Democracy Docket is seeking a Video Editor to join our growing team. This new role will edit long-form and short-form content for our social media channels, including YouTube, Tik Tok, and Instagram. The ideal candidate has expertise in storytelling, pacing, music, and graphics, and has edited both podcasts and narrative-style content. To really stand out, you should have a good grasp of democracy issues, and creative ideas about how to get the most out of our content.
Key Responsibilities
- Edit raw footage into long-form and short-form content for Democracy Docket's social media channels.
- Incorporate motion graphics, sound effects, and music to enhance storytelling.
- Manage post-production workflow and file system.
- Design thumbnails for YouTube videos.
- Adapt to fast-paced workflows and be responsive to urgent editorial needs.
Required Qualifications
- 3-5 years of experience in video editing for social media.
- Fluency in Adobe Suite; Premiere, Photoshop, and After Effects.
- Ability to take direction and address notes creatively.
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple projects, and meet tight deadlines.
- Familiarity with legal, political, or democracy-related issues is a strong plus.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced media environment that requires flexibility.
Work Environment
This is a full-time role based out of either our Washington, D.C. or Jersey City office. We currently operate on a hybrid schedule, with remote work on Mondays and Fridays and in-office days on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. This role will be part of the Video Team while working closely with our founder and the News and Growth Teams.

Salary Range: $80,000-$90,000
